Vatican Forbids Condoms for Contraception

Although Pope Benedict XVI acknowledges the use of condoms can stop the spread of AIDS, the Vatican still prohibit use of condoms as a contraceptive. This was revealed by the Vatican, Tuesday (21/12). In a statement, the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith says there is 'a wrong interpretation' of the Pope's statement that caused confusion about the Vatican's views about sexual morality.

In a book published last month, the Pope uses the example of a prostitute to say there are cases where the use of condoms to prevent the spread of HIV could be the first step toward moralisasi, although condoms are 'not the right way to cope with HIV infection'. Liberal Catholics welcomed the Pope's comments in the book, but the Vatican worried about the Pope's statement misinterpreted.

A statement from the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith says the Pope's statement about 'condom twisted to the goals and interests that are outside the meaning of the words were actually'. Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith states the pope's words could not mean a turning point of doctrine about contraception. They said that for years the use of condoms to prevent the spread of AIDS is not part of the solution.

Liberal Catholic groups, AIDS activists, and other health agencies to assess the use of the word condom in the book is a breakthrough.
